MOONRISE

Located on an oceanfront bluff with 180 degree sea views, Villa Moonrise is designed to wrap around the headland so that the spectacular views can be enjoyed from every room. The home is excavated into the hillside to reduce its visual impact on the surroundings and is tastefully landscaped by Clare.

Recently built, this property takes advantage of the latest renewable energy and energy saving technologies which make it self sufficient in electricity and water.

Technical characteristics:

Construction

  • Traditional concrete construction trimmed with Coralstone sourced from Dominican Republic

  • Finishes include Guyanese Greenheart and hand riven Brazilian slate flooring

  • Doors and windows rated for cat5 hurricanes

Solar power system

  • 10 KW solar array located on a carport structure which can be seen on the right in the photo above

  • 45 KWH lithium ion battery storage system which powers the home through the night

  • Silent, automatic diesel generator (runs only during rare times of consecutive cloudy days)

  • No break load switching (whole house works like an uninterruptible power supply)

Rainwater harvesting

  • Roof collects rainwater into perimeter gutters which are piped into storage cisterns

  • 2 cisterns with capacity of 40,000 gallons each to ensure continuous water supply year round

  • Pumps and filtration system for distribution

Cooling and heating

  • Cooling by natural cross flow ventilation by the ever present trade winds

  • Highest efficiency air conditioning cools all four en suite bedrooms by night and an office by day, all running off the solar power system

  • Water heating by advanced CO2 heat pump which provides endless hot water and again runs entirely off the solar system
